I believe art in its various forms is the “soul” of our existence. Without it, there is little point in acquiring all the material things for which we long.
I am a self-taught artist, having grown up on a small Midwest farm.
Marrying during college, I became wife to a Viet Nam War serviceman and became a mother of two boys, living in 8 states and teaching students from 5th to 12th grade.
Living in Iowa gave me opportunities.to teach English, Title I Reading and Math, Special Education, and English as a second language.
In the early 1990’s I moved with my husband and youngest son to Phoenix, AZ. Relocation led me to teaching adults to acquire a high school equivalency. It was there that I helped a nonprofit start an education program for homeless youth who had aged out of the social service system.
I’m proud to say that everything led up to my last position as Adult Education Consultant at the Iowa Dept. of Education.
What started with my teaching in Iowa and Arizona became the foundation for my paintings.
I try to put the same feeling that I had in education into my painting.
My goal is that my art will evoke a feeling from the viewers that they can connect to personally.
